Is a Personal Trainer Right for Me?

When it comes to achieving our own personal fitness goals, there is no one size fits all solution. What works for one may not work for another as we all have different body types, fitness levels and, most importantly, interests. Quite simply, if you are not enjoying your fitness regime, the chances are that you will either not be putting in the effort required to see results.

This is something that our personal trainers at our Islington studio understand. They work closely with clients both on a one-to-one and a group basis in order to offer a fitness experience that will not only yield the results they desire but keep them coming back for more, too.

Never Considered a Personal Trainer?

If you have never seriously considered calling on the help of a personal trainer, you are not alone. After all, many people do prefer self-guided exercise whereby they arrive at the studio and make use of whatever machine or equipment is available. For many, this works just fine, but for many more, the presence of a personal trainer would help push their workout to the next level.

Contrary to popular belief, a personal trainer is not someone who stands and shouts at you for an hour, demanding that you push yourself harder. The personal trainers at Bodyjunkies are supportive and will create a detailed bespoke fitness plan based on your own personal needs. You will be pushed by our team of trainers, but they will be with you every step of the way on your journey.

Another myth is that the services of a personal trainer are far too expensive for the normal person, reserved only for the rich and famous. Again, not true; all sessions and packages at Bodyjunkies are affordable and fit around you - we get that it's not everyone who can make an early afternoon session on a Tuesday.

Lacking in Motivation

Motivation is one of the most commonly cited reasons for someone falling off the gym wagon, as it were. When you commit to exercising on your own - with no one but yourself to ensure that you remain disciplined with your new lifestyle - it’s very easy to become bored and feel as though working out is a chore. Quite simply, if you feel that you aren’t enjoying your regime, it needs to change.

It may be that you have set yourself highly unrealistic goals or have not allowed for any form of flexibility or variation in your regime. If this sounds familiar, this could be where the presence of a professional can help. Any of the fantastic personal trainers based at our Islington studio will be able to set out a clear plan with realistic goals, as well as plan engaging sessions that keep you motivated.

The worst thing that you can do is to set out to carry out the exact same session day after day, week after week. It simply doesn’t work; even top athletes require variation in their training sessions to stay as motivated as they are. Let’s not also forget that if you do restrict yourself to the exact same exercises on a session by session basis, you aren’t working out the entirety of your body which may result in disproportionate muscle growth and growth may well be slow.

Give You What You Need

One of the key benefits of training with a personal trainer is that they will be on hand to give you all the professional help and advice you need to reach your goals. As well as planning out sessions to workout the areas of your body you wish to focus on, a personal trainer will also be able to offer nutritional advice you can take onboard outside of the fitness studio.

As we all know, exercise needs to be accompanied by the correct diet in order to see the weight loss and/or muscle gains that we aspire for. Your personal trainer can devise a nutritional plan or advise on foods you should include in your diet, as well as those you should be absolutely staying clear of. When you train alone, you don’t receive this level of support, which, if you don’t consider yourself to be a nutritional expert, can make the world of difference for your fitness journey.

You also don’t need to feel as though you must write down all your questions to remember to ask before or after your session. When you work with a personal trainer, they will be more than happy to answer any questions or offer any fitness/nutritional advice outside of your sessions. They will do their best to ensure that you benefit from their support.

What if a Personal Trainer isn’t Right for Me?

If you do try using a personal trainer and you do happen to find that you prefer simply swinging by the fitness studio and taking part in classes, then that’s fine, too. Every single one of us is different and, as we have already acknowledged, there isn't a one size fits all solution works for everyone when it comes to fitness. This is why we offer a wide range of possibilities for those looking to improve and/or maintain their fitness levels.

Whilst working with a personal trainer on a one-on-one basis may not be for everyone, don’t completely discount the idea just yet. Here at Bodyjunkies, as well as one-on-one sessions we also offer group training sessions where our trainers will work with a small group – meaning that they can still offer personalised advice but in less intense sessions.

This may just be the ideal middle ground for those that don’t want to have a trainer constantly watching over them, whilst still wanting to benefit from the bespoke sessions and training programs. Additionally, this also means that you can still train with your friends and/or family members that you would usually bring along with you, all of which helps to maintain your motivation for keeping fit!
